This first paragraph opens with a large drop cap, the way a feature essay opens in a print magazine. Paste your opening here. Keep the first paragraph strong — it's the one that sits beside the oversized letter and sets the voice for everything that follows.

Every new paragraph goes inside its own pair of <p> and </p> tags. You don't need to know any more code than that to publish: copy this file, rename it, replace the words, and save.

On a wide screen the text flows across two columns with a thin rule between them. On a phone it collapses to a single column automatically, so readers on any device get a comfortable line length.

A pull quote spans both columns — choose the one line you most want a skimming reader to carry away.

After the pull quote, the essay continues in two columns again. Use pull quotes sparingly; one or two per essay keeps them meaningful.

If your essay moves between time periods or places, a section break gives the reader a breath.
